Organisational psychology is a practical and professional discipline which seeks to understand the complex inter-relationships that occur within the work context, in order to improve organisational effectiveness and individual wellbeing.

Organisational Psychologists apply psychological principles and methods to understand and influence work behaviour, work attitudes, organisational structures and organisational systems.

The application of valid, reliable and scientifically grounded methods is often adopted by Organisational Psychologists in order to assist organisations to achieve effectiveness at the level of the organisation, the group and the individual.

Organisational Psychologists are:
Usually members of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and therefore bound by the APS Code of Ethics
Six-year trained and hold a Masters degree in Organisational Psychology (or equivalent)
Usually Members of the APS College of Organisational Psychologists with at least two additional years of supervised practical experience
Required to maintain a program of ongoing Professional Development
Registered as Psychologists with a State or Territory Psychologists Registration Board and is some States registered to use the title ‘Organisational Psychologist’, reflecting their additional training and experience.

Organisational Psychologists have a broad range of interests in areas of expertise. The APS College of Organisational Psychologists has developed a set of competencies specifying the knowledge, skill and experience required of practitioners.
